ABOUT THE ARTIST:
I'm Cynthia Sheppard (she/her), an artist and art educator living near Seattle, WA, USA

I create illustration art for games and publishers, with clients like Wizards of the Coast (Dungeons & Dragons, Magic: the Gathering), Tor Books, ImagineFX, et al. My specialty is character-driven scenes that feel personal, lyrical, emotionally resonant, or have rich visual storytelling.

Since 2021, I’ve been teaching an online course called Illustrating the Emotional Narrative at smarterartschool.com, where we explore how to make compositional choices that reflect a character’s story, and carry them through finished narrative pieces using time-tested illustration processes.

In a past life (aka 2015-2021), I was a Sr. Art Director for Magic: the Gathering. Since then I’ve had the pleasure of speaking and consulting on art direction-related topics for businesses ranging from small publishers to AAA studios.
